Do you ever get tangled up in conversations where people are striving to clarify Truth? Throughout the course of a day, waves of voices and opinions come to us, tagged with five words: All You Need to Know. It takes extraordinary discernment and energy to process all of it.
And for some of us, it’s unsettling to emotionally experience religious debates as they bump and bruise the core of what we believe. In the media marketplace, people serve up theology by way of numbered lists, strict guidelines, ordered facts, or linked references. All of them may be well intended, but do they truly help anyone get it right?
Often times I find myself wondering, “Why do we have to make the simple so complicated?”
Whenever I feel like I’m drowning in the flood of other people’s absolute interpretations, I go to God’s Word. Inside the pages He releases Truth so bright it illuminates the elegance of His plan. He sweetly quiets the noise and eliminates the confusion as only He can do.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
– John 3:16, NIV
Miraculous. Mysterious. More than enough.
In Max Lucado’s book, 3;16 The Numbers of Hope, Max summarizes this “Hope Diamond’ of the scriptures in six wonderful words:
God loved. God gave. We believe. We live.
Take a moment today. Walk away from the busyness and confusion of your day-to-day life. Get alone with God. Allow yourself a refreshing soak in His Word. Invite a burst of His clarity into your life. Savor the simplicity of God’s plan and the outrageous gifts of redemption and grace.
And after you’ve wholly saturated, go and lovingly encourage a soul who desperately needs someone like you to just keep it simple, sister.
