He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
~Micah 6:8 NIV
Walk humbly. Over a year ago, I ask God to unpack humility for me. He requires it and I want to get it. He goes right to work.
It happens fast.
He says, “Go” and I do. A crazy love for Haiti wrecks me and it leaves me with no words to describe it. I just know I have to go back again and again and again.
He reorders my professional life. He gifts me with a whole new world and a learning curve steeper than I’ve ever climbed.
He adjusts the timeline in my heart and keeps my kids in Korea an extra-unplanned year.
He gathers the whole family under one roof. He causes the balance to radically shift and with it the size of our hearts. A newborn baby changes everything.
He opens a door we didn’t know existed. He invites my husband and me to enter into a possibility we never imagined for our lives. We say, “Yes.”
You can’t grasp humility until you’ve been humbled. The push and pull between resistance and surrender are ever present.
Choices wait to be made in every moment. Each decision either brings you one step closer in your walk with God or sends you down a road filled with painful obstacles and messy detours.
There are two things I know to be true:
I can’t walk His way on my own
I don’t have to….
I’m desperate for the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. It’s by His strength alone I keep my heart anchored to the altar and remain steadfast.
By His grace and mercy I don’t have to spend another day of my life off track, confused, or recalculating the distance between where I am and He is. He provides all I need to walk this walk with Him – His way.
I’m grateful for a place to share what God’s been showing me and what He’s showing you. I pray He uses our conversations here to unite us with holy resolve, renewed purpose, and extraordinary passion. Let’s make it count and encourage one another to do all He requires – His way.
So how about YOU…
- How does God’s Word on walking humbly speak to you?
- Why do you think it’s among His requirements?
- Where do His lessons in humility show up most frequently in your life?
