Smitten By Him

It has been so fun to watch my partner in ministry, Gretch-e-j as I like to call her (which is her old Twitter name) being pursued and caught by the love of her life, Greg Saffles! They recently were married in a beautiful, God-glorifying wedding ceremony. Once Gretch finally gave in and admitted she kind of liked Greg, I began to see him stop by our office on a more regular basis! Observing their behavior was so much fun! To say that they are smitten with each other is an UNDERSTATEMENT!

I thought that maybe it was just a dating thing, but no, it’s not! Even after two weeks of marriage they still look at each other with goo-goo eyes. As a matter of fact, when they are together they are clueless that other people are around. It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

The definition of smitten is to “be affected by something overwhelming, to be marked by foolish or unreasoning fondness.” Have you ever been smitten by something?

I was this past weekend at The Gift! Here are the things I was smitten by:

  • The hundreds of volunteers who served Single Moms and their children.
  • Smiles on the faces of Moms with new hair cuts, polished fingers and toes, new clothes….
  • The love of a church family who gave not only of their time but of their resources as well to bless so many.
  • The four children that placed their faith in Jesus as a result of adults who shared the gospel with them while their mothers were being loved.
  • The generosity of those who donated a car and the stunned woman and her family who desperately needed a car!

Most of all, I am smitten by the love of our Heavenly Father who gave us an indescribable gift: His Son, Jesus. Because of Jesus, we can have HOPE in a world that sometimes seems hopeless. And because of Jesus, we can KNOW where we will spend eternity if we have placed our faith and trust in Him.

Christmas really is all about Jesus. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of the season and miss the true meaning.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Can I challenge you to take spend some time with Jesus this Christmas season and be smitten by Him? Would you share the greatest gift ever given with someone else by telling them about Jesus?
